Ted Herold
Ted Herold (born September 9, 1942 in Berlin-Schöneberg ; actually Harald Walter Bernhard Schubring ) is a German singer .
Life
The son of a master plasterer who moved with his family to Bad Homburg vor der Höhe in 1951 , was already enthusiastic about music as a teenager. He was particularly fond of American rock 'n' roll titles by Bill Haley , Buddy Holly and above all Elvis Presley . Schubring first convinced his classmates by replaying relevant hits until a classmate put him in touch with the Polydor record company in 1958 . After test recordings, the first single , which contains two German-language cover versions of Elvis Presley hits, was recorded in the same year in the Polydor studio in Hamburg under music producer and orchestra director Bert Kaempfert . The sales manager invented the pseudonym Ted Herold to go with the rock 'n' roll titles.
The first record became a respectable success, Herold got a lucrative contract with participation in the sale and switched to the Polydor studio in Vienna to the successful producer Gerhard Mendelson , who was there a. a. already steered the career of Peter Kraus . While Kraus successfully interpreted much softer titles from then on, Herold was built up as "German Elvis". Until 1960, Herold sang almost exclusively German cover versions of successful Presley titles. The title I am a man of the then 17-year-old caused a sensation . The piece was not played by German radio stations in the prudish post-war period.
Herold's career steered in 1959 with numerous single releases and first tours, u. a. with Tommy Kent , Bully Buhlan , Ralf Paulsen and Max Greger towards a first high point. In the same year he graduated from secondary school . In 1960, Herold's repertoire, just like his role model Elvis Presley, was expanded to include softer titles. The ballad Moonlight , written by Werner Scharfenberger and Fini Busch , developed into the singer's greatest success with over 500,000 singles sold and climbed to first place in the German charts. Herold, who was still considered a rebellious rock 'n' roller, did not get any engagements from the exclusively public television broadcasters until the mid-1960s, but between 1959 and 1963 he appeared with his titles in numerous music films. In 2015 his song "Bill Haley" opened the Bear Family sampler "And then came Bill Haley" with German Bill Haley cover versions.
The orchestra of Johannes Fehring can be heard as the accompanying orchestra on Ted Herold's early publications up to 1966 , and more rarely the orchestras of Werner Scharfenberger , Erwin Halletz , Boris Jojic , Gerry Friedrich and Bill Justis .
In 1963 Herold's career was interrupted when he was drafted into the German Armed Forces in Wetzlar , where he was trained as a radio operator. Although he brought out three singles during his time in the armed forces, they no longer appeared up-to-date in view of the emerging beat wave. Even the titles recorded after his discharge as a sergeant in 1964 did not achieve the success of earlier records. In 1965 Herold, who had meanwhile started training as a radio and television technician in Wetzlar , married the innkeeper Karin Höhler and in 1966 moved to Wetzlar- Nauborn . In the same year Herold recorded the last single with the Polydor. Except for two singles released in 1969 by the record company Metronome , it was now quiet about Herold, who from 1970 worked as a workshop manager in his learned profession. In March 1977 he passed the master craftsman examination. Herold lived in Echtz for two years .
In the same year, Herold surprisingly received an offer from the German rock singer Udo Lindenberg to work on a title for the LP Panische Nights and to accompany him on a tour of Germany. He received a record deal with Teldec , released new titles, which he sings along with his old classics in the midst of the rock 'n' roll revival of that time, even at numerous appearances. In contrast to older recordings accompanied by orchestras, Herold served as an accompanying group from 1978 onwards, a specially composed ensemble around the guitarists Helmut Franke and Peter Hesslein .
At the end of the 1990s, his old singles were now completely re-released on CD, Ted Herold was able to relive the old times and was a guest at numerous television programs and gala events, for example in April 2007 in episode 1116 of the television series Lindenstrasse . He also performed live concerts and released several CDs. In September 2002, on the occasion of his 45th stage anniversary and his 60th birthday, the single Ob 16 or 60 and a "Best Of" CD with the title Mein verrücktes / verrocktes Leben were released . In the same month Herold married his long-time partner Manuela in Dortmund .
Since 2005 new CDs have been released on A1 / A2 Records by Ted Herold. With the new single 1958 - we were there , he immediately placed himself in the charts. This was followed by other pieces that were released on the A1 / A2 Records label. In January 2008 he released the 26th CD album "Jukebox, Jeans, Rock'n'Roll" with numerous new songs. In December 2010, on the occasion of the Christmas concert in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle, the 27th album Wahre Liebe wird nicht Older was released. Ted Herold celebrated his 70th birthday on September 9, 2012. For this reason, the third album was released on November 15, 2012 on the A1 / A2 Records label with the title Rock`n`Roll always goes . At the same time, the main thing, you do your thing and Das Herz der Rock`n`Roller, the third release Rock`n`Roll Lady appeared . Further extracts from the album Rock`n`Roll always works , which were released between 2012 and 2014, are called Marie Marro , The sweet politician , You are as old as you feel , Not everyone has a heart like you , It's raining hard Dollars . Ted Herold has been under contract with Tinacolada Klangwelt since January 2016. On February 1, 2016, the first release on the Tinacolada label was released, a duet with Lars Vegas entitled Das ist Rock`n`Roll .
In 2016 Ted Herold said goodbye to the stage.
