Kühbeck grew up as the son of a doctor in Munich and received singing lessons as a child. To finance his architecture studies, he performed as a singer in various Schwabing artist bars.

Single Susie Darlin ' , 1958

His first two recordings appeared in 1958. Kühbeck used the pseudonym Jonny Keller and appeared as a member of the Achim Beier Singers . In the same year, producer Bert Kaempfert and Kühbeck, who now appeared as Tommy Kent , recorded the German cover version of the Robin Luke hit Susie Darlin for the Polydor label . The title reached fourth place on the German charts in June 1959. More singles and appearances in hit programs and films followed. Kühbeck's repertoire consisted largely of German cover versions of mostly American hits by Gary Paxton, Elvis Presley, Lloyd Price , Cliff Richard , Ritchie Valens and others. There are also compositions by Kaempfert and Peter Moesser .

From 1962 to 1964 Kent was under contract with the record company Ariola , after which he worked under various pseudonyms (including Fred Karmann, Tommy Shane) for various production companies. In the early 1970s he took on two more titles as Tommy Kent at Intercord . This and other comeback attempts in the 1970s failed, however. In 1975 Teldec released a single under Kühbeck's real name with two titles in Bavarian . In 1981 the single Donner, Blitz und Rock'n'Roll was released .

Kühbeck later worked as an architect. He designed u. a. the Spanish consulate in Munich. As Tommy Kent-Kühbeck , he was also active as a painter, so in 2003 he designed a Buddy Bear for Siemens , which was equipped with a music system that allows a special Buddy Bear CD to be played.

Private life

Kühbeck is the uncle of Pola Kinski , who mentions him in her book Kindermund (2013).
