from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Euro Disco [ ˈjʊəɹəʊˌdɪskəʊ ] is a style that emerged in the 1980s within electronic dance music , which is characterized by the use of mainly electronic instruments ( synthesizers , keyboards and drum computers ). Euro Disco is one of the forerunners of the Eurodance music popular in the 1990s .

style

Euro Disco is based on the 4/4 time known for dance music, which became popular with disco music. The term was primarily used for the mix of synth-pop with Italo Disco , with the Euro Disco having a stronger bass and the melodies being less spherical and varied. That is why, for example, Discofox is better to dance on Euro Disco than on Italo Disco, as the 4/4 beats are louder and therefore clearly audible.

history

The first representatives to pick up on the disco wave from the USA came from England, where in the early 1970s they experimented with their own variations of soul music. In Italy, Italo Disco developed its own scene. The so-called Munich Sound by producer Giorgio Moroder , who achieved No. 1 hits in the charts with artists Donna Summer and Silver Convention , became particularly popular throughout Europe .

In the 1980s, were in Germany such as producer Dieter Bohlen with the group Modern Talking and the interpreter CC Catch successful. Furthermore, Bad Boys Blue , Fancy and Sandra shaped this music.

In Great Britain these included the producer trio Stock Aitken Waterman with Mel & Kim , Kylie Minogue and Rick Astley . Groups like the Pet Shop Boys also had their sound very close to Euro Disco, albeit always with a certain ironic distance compared to their continental European contemporaries.

Around 1990 Euro Disco developed together with Italo Disco to become Eurodance .
