from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A State Criminal Police Office ( LKA ) is a German state police facility that is present in each of the 16 countries . Usually it is a higher state authority - sometimes it is dependent authority parts.

Like other German police authorities, state criminal investigation offices are subordinate to the respective interior ministry . The Berlin State Criminal Police Office is a dependent branch of the State Police Authority, The Police President in Berlin . The Brandenburg State Criminal Police Office has been a dependent organizational part of the state police headquarters since January 1, 2011, as has the Saarland State Criminal Police Office since March 1, 2012.

tasks and activities

In addition to tasks of averting danger in special or outstanding cases, the State Criminal Police Office has tasks in criminal prosecution . Extensive supraregional investigative activities in the areas of sexual crimes , organized crime , narcotics , counterfeit money and state security for the local police are performed as a service. Forensic investigations ( forensics ) are carried out in the forensic institutes (KTI), e.g. for Lower Saxony in the KTI Lower Saxony .

As a rule, in addition to the technical evaluation of fingerprints ( dactyloscopy ) and other traces (shoe prints, material and fiber traces), experts for operative case analysis are also available in the LKA .

In addition, the police crime statistics are compiled annually by the State Criminal Police Office .

The state criminal police offices with their central office function are the link between the police departments of the respective states and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

Each LKA maintains a round-the-clock detective service . Some state criminal police offices also maintain their own mobile task force (MEK). In addition, the special operations commandos (SEK) are in many cases affiliated with the LKA, provided they are not directly subordinate to the riot police , the interior ministry or a large supra-local police station ( praesidia , etc.).
