From December 1990 to December 1993, the State Police Office (LPA) existed as an independent department of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of the Interior as the highest state authority to manage the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Police. During the development phase of the State Police Office from December 1990 to June 1991, this was carried out by the head of "Department II.4: Police", a high-ranking official in the Ministry of the Interior. In July 1991, the post of "Head of the State Police Office Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania" was created, which was filled with a high-ranking police officer. In December 1993, the State Police Office was dissolved and the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Police have been led directly by the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since then. For this purpose, the post of "Inspector of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Police" was created from January 1994, who is located directly in the Ministry of the Interior, whereby the respective inspector of the State Police is a high-ranking police officer and thus at the same time the "highest police officer of the state" and also the "department 430: Police Inspector, Police Deployment "Department 4: Police, Sport, Fire and Disaster Protection" of the Ministry of the Interior of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Personnel development

From November 1989 ( fall of the Wall ) to October 1990 ( reunification ), the police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania continued to work in the structures of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR . During this period, however, the areas of passport and registration, fire brigade, traffic licensing, penitentiary services and the " Unification Treaty " of August 31, 1990 and the " German Reunification " that took place on October 3, 1990 began with the " Ländereinführungsgesetz " of July 22, 1990 the transport police (TraPo) were detached and transferred to the respective jurisdiction of the municipalities, the districts, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of Justice and the Federal Border Police of the FRG. As a result, the original number of police officers in the German People's Police in the three GDR districts of Schwerin , Rostock and Neubrandenburg , from which the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania emerged, was reduced within just one year from November 1989 to December 1990 considerable, by more than half. The founding date of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Police can in fact be 5 December 1990, when the new and first Interior Minister of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Georg Diederich ( CDU ), in the cabinet of Prime Minister Alfred Gomolka , made the " Provisional Regulation on the Organization of the State Police Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the performance of police tasks "issued.

equipment

Uniforms

On January 1, 2009, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania police took over the new blue police uniform of the Hamburg police . In a transition period until December 31, 2011, all officers were dressed in the new uniform.

An external carrying case (ATH) for the protective police was introduced on May 28, 2020.

Vehicles (land, water, air)

The police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania mainly use Mercedes-Benz , Opel and Volkswagen vehicles as official vehicles . Occasionally, vehicles from other manufacturers such as Audi and Nissan are also used. Current police cars are Mercedes-Benz Vito , VW Passat , VW T5 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class .

In the course of the color change, new patrol cars and emergency vehicles in blue-silver or blue-white are being procured. The first patrol cars in the new livery were handed over on January 12, 2009 by the inspector of the police, Rudolf Springstein, in Schwerin.

New vehicles are registered with license plates in the form "MVL XXXXX", whereby MVL stands for "Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, state government and state parliament". The reason for this change was the abolition of the official registration number on March 1, 2007.

By 2005, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania police had 1,400 state-owned service vehicles (cars, trucks, vans, trailers and special vehicles) and 150 federal vehicles for the riot police. Between 1994 and 2004, a total of 1,136 company vehicles were purchased as replacements or additions for around 25 million euros. From 2004 to 2007, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania police used leasing vehicles, which meant that around 600 patrol cars were no more than 2 years old. Due to the rising price trend for leasing vehicles, the company returned to buying state police vehicles after a few years . The complete renewal of the entire fleet and vehicle fleet of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Police, which began in 2011, should be completed by 2014.
