organization

The water police school is partly financed by the individual countries. Thuringia is not involved as it does not have a water police. The teaching consists of the officers of the higher service the state police . The federal government is not involved in the WSPS. In total, an average of 33 employees and twelve teachers from the federal states serve at the WSPS. The students of the courses can not only spend the night in the school building, but also receive full board there.

In addition to TV and reading rooms, there is also a billiard room and a sports hall for leisure activities. A particularly popular facility is the so-called " fair ", which is operated independently ( Förderverein der Wasserschutzpolizei-Schule Hamburg e.V. ). This room was modeled on a traditional ship's fair and is used for celebrations of all kinds.

education

In addition to the basic training courses required for the WSP service, specialist training courses are also offered at the WSPS. The seminars are tailored to the requirements of landlocked and coastal countries. The basic training consists of a specialist course for civil servants from coastal and inland countries. There are special training courses for radar travel , the ECDIS (electronic map with navigation information combined with the radar device), dangerous goods , environmental protection, ship technology and ship radio . In addition, the management staff receive specialist training.

The inland department includes all training and further education in inland shipping law, in particular all traffic regulations, manning regulations including required patents , registration law , calibration of ships, environmental criminal law , transport law and dangerous goods transport law ( GGVSE ). In addition, one of the most modern radar simulators in Europe is available to the department, which also enables practical training in Germany ( ECDIS ).

Every year around 100 courses with up to 1100 participants are organized and carried out. All courses comply with national and international standards and are recognized by the responsible authorities.

history

The water police school based in Hamburg's free port was founded in August 1945 as a training center for water police in the British occupation zone.

Today the school is a transnational facility where all water police officers in Germany are trained (currently approx. 3,000 law enforcement officers nationwide).

The basis is an agreement of the federal states on tasks and financing from 1974, which was supplemented by additional agreements with the new federal states and the Saarland in 1991. With this, all federal states except Thuringia (no water police) have joined the agreement. The federal government did not participate in this agreement.
