The State Criminal Police Office Saarland ( LKA Saarland ) is a higher state authority in the form of a State Criminal Police Office at the Saarland Police , based in Saarbrücken .

history

After the Second World War , France separated the Saarland from Germany (see: History of the Saarland → Separation after 1945 ). Instead of a state criminal police office, a state criminal police office (LKPA) was founded. This office had a special status and was an independent member of Interpol . After the rejection of the Saar Statute by the Saarlanders in 1955 and the Saar Treaty in 1956, the Saarland became Land of the Federal Republic of Germany . In the same year, the Saarland State Criminal Police Office was founded as the successor to the State Criminal Police Office. In April 1957, the LKA was given the tasks of an LKA under the BKA Act by decree of the Ministry of the Interior .

The State Criminal Police Office is responsible for the conduct of investigations and the guideline competence in the fight against crime as well as crime prevention .

The Saarland State Criminal Police Office is divided into 5 departments:

• LKA 3 / operational and investigative support
• LKA 4 / investigations
• LKA 5 / State Security

The LKA has a total of 430 employees. The LKA publishes the country's crime statistics every year .

Franz-Josef Biesel has been the director of LKA Saarland since November 26, 2008 . For more than ten years he was the permanent representative of his predecessor Harald Weiland .
