Harald Weiland

Harald Weiland (born October 11, 1948 ; † June 16, 2009 in Großrosseln ) was President of the Saarland State Criminal Police Office from November 3, 1997 to October 31, 2008 .

Career

Weiland joined the Saarland criminal police in October 1972 as a direct entrant in the middle service with the rank of superintendent. After completing his theoretical and practical training, he was a clerk in the police station for homicides, sexual offenses, arson and weapons offenses. From 1976 to 1977 Weiland completed his training as a senior criminal service . Subsequently, he was an absentee representative at the criminal investigation department in the Saarbrücken district of Burbach. After being employed in the staff, Weiland began training as a senior police enforcement service at the Police Management Academy (now the German Police University ) in Münster-Hiltrup in September 1985 .

After his appointment to the criminal councilor, he became head of the department before moving to the Ministry of the Interior as a consultant. In 1991 he became head of the criminal investigation department. Just one year later he was appointed permanent representative of the head of the LKA. On November 3, 1997, Weiland became President of the Saarland State Criminal Police Office.

He was retired on October 31, 2008 by Minister of the Interior Klaus Meiser after 36 years of criminal police activity at a ceremony. His successor is criminal director Franz-Josef Biesel.

Weiland was married and had a daughter and two grandchildren.

On December 14, 2010, Harald Weiland was posthumously awarded the French National Order of Merit Ordre national du Mérite at the Chevalier level by the French Consul General in Saarbrücken, Philippe Cerf . With this prestigious award, which is rarely given to foreign citizens, the French state honored Weiland for his services to the cross-border crime control of the police in both states.
