The state police headquarters consists of the authority management with the assigned presidential staff, the directorates LPP 1 to LPP 4 as the national authorities and the area organization.

This is where the criminal police departments are grouped together, which carry out the task of combating medium and especially serious crime.

The LPP 3 Directorate (Personnel / Law) is responsible for personnel matters as well as training and further education in the Saarland police. A judicial office as well as the police medical and police psychological service are also located here.

uniform

Sleeve badge of the police in Saarland

At first, Saarland did not want to participate in changing the uniforms of the Hessian police to blue police uniforms . In the meantime (3rd quarter of 2015) the change to a blue uniform has started. For this purpose, a procurement association was established with the states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. The (standard) uniform should be kept uniform in these three countries in the future. The following uniform parts will be standardized in the countries in the future: trousers, shirts / blouses, short jackets, anoraks, raincoats, cardigans, headgear. Notwithstanding this, the countries RLP and HE also have other items of clothing (e.g. fleece jackets). A main difference is (at least at the beginning of the introduction of the uniform) the lack of a protective vest, as it is already worn in the other federal states. This has now been introduced from the turn of the year 2016/2017.

vehicles

The police in Saarland mainly used Peugeot and Citroën vehicles as official vehicles, especially according to the Saar Statute 1955 , while Renault was used for the trucks . The background was that the Saarbrücker Kraftwagenhandelsgesellschaft (KHG) maintained good contacts in France even after the reintegration of the Saarland into Germany, so that Peugeot dominated the company car business for years. In addition, in 1967 Peugeot opened its first foreign headquarters in Saarland, and in 1977 the Peugeot plant moved to the Saarbrücken district of Güdingen . Well-known series that were used as police vehicles were the 403 , 404 and, until the mid-1990s, the Peugeot 405 . The trend reversal came in the 1970s, when vehicles from the Mercedes-Benz brand and Ford , which had also opened a plant in Saarland, were used more frequently . MB E-Class and MB Vitos are currently used. Special vehicles also come from Mercedes-Benz as well as Opel , Fiat , BMW and Peugeot. The riot police mainly used the VW T4 , Ford Transit and MB Sprinter from federal procurement as well as some vehicles from Fiat and BMW as command vehicles.

Coloring

In the course of the change of uniform, there was also a color change of the vehicles. The first blue vehicles (MB Vito) had been in use in Saarland since April 2014. A large part of the vehicle fleet had been switched to the color blue by the end of 2015, when the third generation of leasing based on MB C-Classes came into service. The vehicles of the Saarland water police had been in blue since 2004. With the vehicles introduced from 2015, the design of patrol vehicles was fundamentally changed in Saarland. In future, the Saarland will also be guided by the VESBA study. Accordingly, the vehicles are provided with (partly retroreflective) neon yellow applications which are intended to significantly improve visibility and thus safety.

Mark

New vehicles are registered with license plates in the form "SAL 4-XXXX", whereby SAL stands for "Saarland, Landesregierung und Landtag". The reason for this change was the abolition of the official registration number on March 1, 2007.
