history

From 2008 to 2013 the football radio 90elf , operated by Regiocast Digital GmbH , played the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga matches as well as the DFB Cup , the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League live and in full transmitted. However, on March 19, 2013 90elf did not receive any broadcasting rights for the 2013/14 season and the rights went to Sport1. The station went on air on July 19, 2013 at 7:00 a.m. Initially, it was planned that Sport1.FM would not be broadcast via DAB + , as the previous 90elf operator Regiocast Digital GmbH Sport1 refused to use its capacities in order to be able to use them itself, but Sport1.FM started a cooperation on July 12, 2013 Energy DAB + , on which the games broadcast on Sport1.FM were broadcast on digital radio from now on . At the end of the 2015/16 season, however, this cooperation was ended again. For the 23rd matchday of the 2014/15 season, the broadcaster recorded 1.04 million views of the stream for the first time, which meant a new record, which was again surpassed on the 34th matchday of the same season with 1.7 million views. In June 2016 it was announced that Sport1.FM had lost its broadcasting rights to the internet retailer Amazon.com and would therefore cease operations after the 2016/17 season.

program

Sport1.FM broadcast all Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga matches live and in full length. In addition, selected games of the DFB Cup were broadcast and radio-compatible television talk programs such as the Doppelpass or formerly Fantalk were broadcast. On weekdays, the matches of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League were also offered live and in full with German participation. Until 2015, games of the Europa League were accompanied by Alexander Ibenhain and Alexander Schlueter in the “Europa League Talk” on Thursdays. Outside of the live broadcasts, game replays were broadcast, framed by a mix of music from the 1980s and pop.

From July 2013 to May 2014, Germany's largest sports show was broadcast on the radio “Sport1.FM Aktuell” on weekdays from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Since the 2014/2015 season, the station has concentrated more on the live broadcasts of sporting events and offered the latest sport news and interviews in "stoppage time", formerly the "mouthpiece", which was broadcast as a 60-minute format after the live games. The station used to broadcast games from the handball and basketball leagues .
