max neo (until 2019 afk max ) is an offer from Mediaschool Bayern and a radio broadcaster for training and further education in Nuremberg . The broadcaster enables young media professionals to create their own radio program. In 2018 it was decided to relocate it in the future under the label Mediaschool Bayern.

max neo broadcasts a mostly live 24-hour radio program on the frequency 106.5 MHz (Nuremberg). In addition to music, a range of magazines and special interest programs as well as editorial contributions are offered. In addition, media educational youth magazines have their fixed broadcasting slot. Other program elements are broadcasts by active club members, volunteers and freelancers.

Foundation and history

The idea of establishing one's own training and further education channels and thus meeting the demand of prospective journalists and radio technicians for professional media work was first implemented in Germany in 1996. On the initiative of the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM), which, with the establishment of the non-profit training company afk - Aus und Fortbildungs GmbH for electronic media (afk GmbH) in April 1995, laid the foundation for the commissioning of the three programs afk M94.5 (Radio Munich) , afk max (Radio Nuremberg) and afk tv (television in Munich), the afk project sees itself as an “innovative training platform for competent young media talent”. Mediaschool Bayern gGmbH (formerly afk GmbH) provides the necessary technology and funding for this work, organizes and supports the personnel, financial and administrative infrastructure, supervises and accompanies the work on a conceptual and program level and plans and coordinates marketing and PR Activities. Mediaschool Bayern gGmbH is a member of MedienCampus Bayern , the umbrella organization for media education and training in Bavaria.

In 1996, afk max began operating in the cable network with a program recorded on video tape. An eight-hour program was broadcast every week, which was repeated in an endless loop. With the first terrestrial frequency in Nuremberg, new associations were added as members who expanded the station as a 24-hour program. The Erlangen VHF frequency followed later, but had to be handed over to EgoFM at the end of 2017.

22 years after the founding of the training channels (AFK), the concept and content were consistently geared towards digital media:

  • AFK Aus und Fortbildungs GmbH for electronic media was renamed to: Mediaschool Bayern gGmbH in summer 2018.
  • The afk max offerers association was renamed in 2019 to: Mediaschool Bayern offerers association Nürnberg eV

The radio station afk max has been called max neo ever since and is an offer from Mediaschool Bayern.

Teaching desk

The max neo program is designed by a teaching staff that corresponds to the operation of a local radio station. In addition to learning all journalistic forms of presentation of the radio medium, the work in the teaching editorial team also includes studio technology, production, speech training and insights into the music editing department. In addition, workshops are offered in which the basics of moderation are taught both practically and theoretically. The target group are all young people interested in radio and media work, both as listeners and as employees or interns or active members of the associated associations.

society

The non-profit afk max Hörfunkverein Nürnberg eV is responsible for the program. A number of training institutions and media companies from the northern Bavarian region have come together to give their students, pupils and trainees the opportunity to work at max neo. Media education initiatives and youth associations also have regular broadcasting slots.
