Petrovo ( Serbian - Cyrillic Петрово ; previously Bosansko Petrovo Selo ) is a village and relatively young community with around 6,500 inhabitants in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina . The area of ​​the municipality was part of the municipalities Gračanica and Lukavac before the Bosnian War and was included in the Dayton Treaty of the Republika Srpska .

The municipality is located near the two municipalities Doboj and Gračanica. The most important settlements are in the Spreča valley . A large part of the municipality is taken up by the Ozren Mountains, to which the Kraljica , the highest point in the municipality, belongs.

population

In 1991 Bosansko Petrovo Selo had 2,911 inhabitants. 2,695 of these identified themselves as Serbs (92.32%), 70 as Yugoslavs (2.39%), 54 as Bosniaks (1.84%) and 100 as members of other ethnic groups.

Also in the 2013 census, Serbs made up the majority of the population in the municipality. Of 6,474 residents, 6,371 identified themselves as Serbs, 36 as Croats and only seven as Bosniaks.

In 1886 Petrovoselo received a connection to the railway network with the opening of the narrow-gauge railway line Doboj – Tuzla . 1947 to 1951 the railway line was converted to standard gauge . As a result of the Bosnian War, rail traffic came to a standstill. Since 2003, a so-called identity train has been commuting between Doboj and Tuzla twice a day .

Attractions

7 km south of Petrovo is the orthodox Ozren monastery, which is believed to have existed since the 16th century.
