Istočni Drvar ( Serbian - Cyrillic Источни Дрвар ; after the Bosnian War also Srpski Drvar ) is a municipality in the west of the Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It arose from the entity boundary set out in the Dayton Treaty that divided the Drvar community . The larger, western part is now part of the Federation .
geography
The municipality of Istočni Drvar is located between 900 and 1400 m altitude between the mountain ranges Klekovača or Crna gora in the south and Srnetica in the north. The terrain is mountainous and characterized by thick coniferous forests.
Istočni Drvar is bordered by the municipalities of Petrovac (RS) in the northwest, Ribnik in the east and Drvar (Federation) in the south.
Community structure
The official community center is Potoci. Most of the place was rebuilt or rebuilt after the war and currently consists of around 15 buildings.
history
During operation rösselsprung on May 26, 1944 attempted German paratroopers , Tito in his headquarters to capture in Drvar. However, he withdrew to Potoci in good time and was able to escape the SS troops . Later the Allied military missions also arrived in Potoci. So for a few days the village was the headquarters of the Yugoslav partisans .
After the Bosnian War , the Serbian residents who remained in the eastern part of the pre-war municipality of Drvar organized themselves initially. There were no activities on the part of the Republika Srpska to integrate the municipality into the administrative system that was being established. Until 1999 there was no municipal administration, nor were the organs of the RS (e.g. police) present. Decisions were made through agreements. There is now a small police station in Potoci with a policeman and a mayor.
population
At the 2013 census, the municipality only had 79 inhabitants, making it the country's poorest municipality. Almost all residents are Serbs and live in Potoci.
At the 1991 census, Potoci had 61 inhabitants; 60 of them described themselves as Serbs, one as a Bosniak.
economy
The only industry in the municipality is the timber industry . The surrounding coniferous forests are cultivated from Potoci ; Several small sawmills work in the village. The products are brought along the forest paths towards Drvar or Banja Luka . In the years after the war, deforestation proceeded without government control and large quantities of timber were smuggled into the Federation across the entity line.
Transport and infrastructure
The municipality of Istočni Drvar is poorly connected to the nearest larger towns. There is no continuous paved road connection to Drvar or Mrkonjić Grad . Apart from wood transport, there is hardly any road traffic within the municipality.
In October 1999 a hospital was opened in Potoci .
education
There are no educational institutions.
Personalities
Potoci is the birthplace of Dr. Anica Nazor , head of the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb and member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences .
