Modriča ( Serbian - Cyrillic Модрича ) is a city in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the capital of the municipality of the same name with almost 28,000 inhabitants. It has belonged to the Republika Srpska since the Bosnian War .
geography
Modriča is located on the lower reaches of the Bosna in the predominantly agricultural Posavina plain. A large part of the municipality is occupied by wooded ridges: Vučjak (367 m) on the left bank, Trebava (644 m) on the right bank of the Bosna.
Neighboring municipalities are Brod , Šamac , Derventa , Doboj , Donji Žabar , Gradačac , Odžak , Pelagićevo and Vukosavlje .
history
The current settlement has developed since the 13th century.
Modriča was affected by the Bosnian War 1992-95 due to its corridor location between the areas controlled by the VRS in the west and east, those under the control of the HVO in the north and the area of the ARBiH in the south.

At the 1991 census, the municipality of Modriča had 35,613 inhabitants.

The municipality includes the following places: Babešnica, Botajica, Čardak, Dobra Voda, Dobrinja, Dugo Polje, Garevac, Jakeš, Kladari Donji, Kladari Gornji, Koprivna, Kužnjača, Miloševac, Modriča, Modrički Lug, Pećnikji, Riječani Donji Skugrić Gornji, Tarevci, Vranjak and Gnionica.
Culture
The city has a cultural center and a sports hall in which various events take place. A basketball tournament has been taking place in the summer for several years. A motorcycle meeting, the Motoriada , makes Modrica a Mecca for motorcycle fans every year. The city is very lively on weekends, the cafes are usually full. There are several discos and a night club.
economy
The largest employer in the city is the oil refinery founded in 1954. There is also a shoe factory that employs over 100 people. The city has been growing steadily since the war, and new companies are also emerging, especially in the construction industry.
traffic
The Sarajevo – Doboj – Šamac railway and the M17 main road run parallel to the Bosna . A motorway is being planned.
Sports
Modriča is home to the football club FK Modriča Maxima , which played in the Bosnian Premijer Liga between 2003 and 2010 and is currently competing in the Prva Liga RS . There is also a volleyball club (OK Modriča Optima), a basketball and a martial arts club.
