About this picture

Pale-Prača ( Serbian - Cyrillic Пале-Прача ) is the smallest of the three municipalities of the canton Bosnian Podrinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina with only about 1,000 inhabitants . The municipality is located on the Prača and its tributaries and belongs to the federation , one of two entities of the south-east European state.

geography

In the Prača valley

The municipality is located in the mountainous east of the country, the mountains in the Jahorina reach heights of more than 1900 m. The Prača flows through a deep gorge here, which is one of the largest in the country. The municipality seat Prača is located on the river of the same name about 25 km east of Pale .

Community structure

The municipality consists of the settlements Brdarići, Brojnići, Čeljadinići, Čemernica, Datelji, Kamenica, Komrani, Prača , Renovica, Šainovići, Srednje and Turkovići.

history

The municipality of Pale-Prača consists of the southeastern part of the former municipality of Pale , separated by the Dayton Treaty by the inner-Bosnian border , the larger remaining part of which now belongs to the Republika Srpska . Nine out of 19 towns with a Bosniak majority were spun off from the municipality of Pale.

population

In 1991 there were 2035 inhabitants on the territory of today's municipality, of whom 1346 identified themselves as Bosniaks (66%) and 674 as Serbs (33%). Prača itself was the only place in the municipality of Pale in which the numerical ratio between Serbs and Bosniaks was almost equal, with a slim Serb majority. Of the remaining 10 districts, nine had a Bosniak majority.

At the 2013 census, the municipality had only 1043 inhabitants.

Economy and Infrastructure

Prača is located on the east Bosnian Magistral Road 5 ( Sarajevo - Višegrad ), which in this section is paved and developed only up to Renovica. The road uses the Prača Gorge as a corridor and is rarely used. In the Renovica settlement about 8 km from Prača, an asphalt pass road branches off, which leads via Čemernica to Goražde . The M5, on the other hand, continues as a gravel road towards Ustiprača . The western part of the municipality, located in the higher part of the Jahorina Mountains, is undeveloped; the settlements located there can only be reached via poor roads.
