The Prača ( Serbian - Cyrillic Прача ) is a left tributary of the Drina in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It rises near the village of Vrhprača (municipality of Pale ) on the northern slope of the Jahorina Mountains about 20 km southeast of Sarajevo . In Ustiprača the river flows into the Drina after 61 km.
Run
The source of the Prača is located below the Paloševina mountain at 1540 m above sea level. NN in the Jahorina National Park . For the first 10 km, the Prača valley divides the mountain ranges of the Jahorina and the Ravna planina . In Podgrab below the 1050 m high Vitez Pass , the Prača receives tributaries from the west and from the Romanija mountains to the north . From now on it runs consistently in an easterly direction through a deep, narrow gorge between Jahorina and Romanija and crosses the municipality of Pale-Prača in the canton of Bosnian Podrinje with its main town of Prača . During the Bosnian War , the gorge was the only traffic corridor through the inaccessible and sparsely populated mountainous landscape east of Sarajevo. Large parts of the gorge are still mined today; most of the settlements in the valley are badly damaged.
South of Rogatica , the Rakitnica, coming from the north, flows towards the Prača. Magistral road 19 (Sarajevo-Rogatica-Višegrad) also runs through the Prača Valley for the last 11 km . In Ustiprača the river flows into the Drina, which is dammed up here by the Višegrad dam.
traffic
The Prača Gorge forms the main transport corridor from Sarajevo to Višegrad . This was used in the past for the route of the Bosnian Eastern Railway and Magistralstrasse 5 . However, the former was shut down in the late 1970s; The second runs east of Prača on the former railway line and has not yet been developed.
