The Inter-Entity Boundary Line ( IEBL , German also entity boundary ) has divided Bosnia and Herzegovina into two entities , the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, since the end of the Bosnian War . This was laid down in the 1995 Dayton Agreement. The total length of this dividing line, which largely follows the course of the former front during the war, is 1,080 km.

In the first few years after the end of the war, controls were still carried out at the inner-Bosnian border, now the line can only be recognized by the welcome signs of the Republika Srpska.

The following communities were divided by the entity boundary (clockwise, newly created communities in brackets):

Bosanska Krupa ( Krupa na Uni , RS) - Sanski Most ( Oštra Luka , RS) - Ključ ( Ribnik , RS) - Bosanski Petrovac ( Petrovac , RS) - Drvar ( Istočni Drvar , RS) - Kupres ( Kupres (RS) ) - Jajce ( Jezero , RS) - Kneževo ( Dobretići , FBiH) - Doboj ( Usora , Doboj Jug , Doboj Istok ; FBiH) - Gradačac ( Pelagićevo , RS) - Odžak ( Vukosavlje , RS) - Bosanski Šamac ( Domaljevac-Šamac , FBiH) - Orašje ( Donji Žabar , RS) - Lopare ( Čelić , FBiH) - Ugljevik ( Teočak , FBiH) - Zvornik ( Sapna , FBiH) - Kalesija ( Osmaci , RS) - Sarajevo-Stari Grad ( Istočni Stari Grad , RS) - Novo Sarajevo ( Istočno Novo Sarajevo , RS) - Ilidža ( Istočna Ilidža , RS) - Trnovo (Trnovo RS) - Pale ( Pale-Prača , FBiH) - Goražde ( Ustiprača , RS) - Foča ( Foča-Ustikolina , FBiH) - Mostar ( Istočni Mostar , RS) - Stolac ( Berkovići , RS) - Trebinje ( Ravno , FBiH). A total of 27 of the then 109 parishes were divided.

After the war, many of the newly established communities in the Republika Srpska initially received the name extension Srpski ("Serbian"), e.g. B. Srpski Mostar ("Serbian Mostar"). After the Bosnian Constitutional Court banned ethnic references in place names in 2004, they had to be renamed and now mostly have the addition of Istočni ("Eastern").
