In the 11th century the place was named Pset and was the seat of the Hungarian-Croatian king. A fortress from the 13th century is located on a rock spur in the city center, directly on the banks of the Una. The Ottomans expanded them. It was renewed in 1783 and 1816.
1882 was Serbian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God ordained . The church was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt from 1989 to 1991. In the Bosnian war she was again heavily damaged and will be renovated in 2008.
On December 13, 1980, a serious railway accident occurred near Bosanska Krupa: A freight train drove prematurely into a single-track line . But there a passenger train ran in the opposite direction. In the following head-on collision, 23 people died.
There was considerable destruction during the Bosnian War . In April 1992, Bosnian Serb forces occupied half of the city area and expelled Bosniak and Croatian residents. In addition to numerous houses, the Gradska džamija ( city mosque ) was largely destroyed on April 24th . It was rebuilt in 1997. In 2005 a mass grave was discovered in which the bodies of Bosnian Serb soldiers believed to have been murdered in 1995 were found.
Culture
Before the Bosnian War there was an artists' colony on site.
