Živinice ( Serbian - Cyrillic Живинице ) is a municipality with the capital and administrative seat of the same name in the canton of Tuzla of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina .
geography
The territory of the municipality of Živinice extends from the northern slopes of the Konjuh Mountains to the plain of the Spreča River , which flows through the region from east to northwest. The town itself lies at the confluence of the Gostelja with the Oskova and shortly before its confluence with the Spreča at an altitude of 232 m.
In the Konjuh there is hard coal - and in the Majevica Mountains further to the northeast, there is brown coal , which is also mined.
Neighboring municipalities are Banovići , Kalesija , Kladanj , Lukavac and Tuzla .
history
The place Živinice probably emerged only in the 18th century. The municipality as it is today has existed since 1959.
Živinice City was only slightly affected by the Bosnian War . Some settlements in the east of the municipality, however, were directly on the front line and were largely destroyed.

At the 1991 census, Živinice had 54,783 inhabitants.

The municipality comprises 30 places: Barice, Bašigovci, Brnjica, Djedino, Dubrave Donje, Dubrave Gornje, Dunajevići, Đurđevik, Gračanica, Kovači, Kršići, Kuljan, Lukavica Donja, Lukvoica Gornja, Odorovići, Priluk, Šerha, Sreča, Tupković Donji, Tupković Gornji, Višća Donja, Višća Gornja, Sarenjak, Vrnojevići, Zelenika, Zukići, Živinice, Živinice Donje and Živinice Gornje.
economy
At Višća Donja in the south-western part of the municipality, hard coal is mined in open-cast mining. In addition to coal mining, forestry and wood processing with the furniture factory "Konjuh" are particularly important.
traffic
The M18 main road , which connects Tuzla with Sarajevo , runs through Živinice . The area has several railway connections that are used exclusively for freight traffic.
In the north of the municipality is Tuzla Airport , which emerged from the old Dubrave military airfield.
