Vogošća ( Serbian - Cyrillic Вогошћа ) is a municipality with almost 28,000 inhabitants in the Sarajevo canton in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The capital of the same name is considered a suburb of the capital Sarajevo .
geography
Vogošća is located in the north-west of Sarajevo above the Bosna Valley. In the sparsely populated north of the municipality, the foothills of the Ozren rise to over 1,100 m. To the south, a smaller ridge with the Orlić and Žuč (each over 800 m) elevations separates Vogošća from the Sarajevsko polje .
history
Vogošća possibly goes back to a settlement in the 7th century. For a long time there was a parish ( Župa Vidogošća ), from which a county ( comitatus ) developed in the 13th and 14th centuries .
During the Bosnian War Vogošća was under the control of the Bosnian Serbs. In the Dayton Treaty the incorporation of the community into the federation was established. Before the final handover in March 1996, most of the Serbian residents left Vogošća.
population
The municipality of Vogošća had 24,647 inhabitants in 1991, of whom 12,499 (50.7%) were Bosniaks , 8,813 (35.8%) were Serbs , 1,730 (7.0%) were Yugoslavs and 1,071 (4.3%) were Croatians designated.
Among the 10,598 inhabitants of the city were 4,698 (44.3%) Serbs, 3,724 (35.1%) Bosniaks, 1,291 (12.2%) Yugoslavs and 545 (5.1%) Croatians.
Almost twenty years after the end of the war, the population is back above the pre-war level. The vast majority of the population today are the Bosniaks, including many refugees from eastern Bosnia.

Infrastructure
The arterial road from Sarajevo to the north runs through the city and splits in Semizovac into the M17 towards Zenica and the M18 towards Tuzla . The western bypass from Sarajevo and the railway line to Doboj with the stations Vogošća and Semizovac also run in the Bosna Valley . Until it was destroyed in the Bosnian War , Vogošća was also connected to the capital by lines 105 and 106 of the trolleybus from Sarajevo .
Vogošća is located on the Šamac – Sarajevo railway line of the Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine (ŽFBH). In 1882, with the opening of the Bosnabahn, the village was connected to the railway network. In 1947 the Yugoslav State Railways converted the Sarajevo – Doboj section of the Bosna Railway to standard gauge and extended the route to Bosanski Šamac .
