Srebrenik ( Serbian - Cyrillic Сребреник ) is a city in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The municipality of Srebrenik with almost 43,000 inhabitants belongs to the Tuzla canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina .

geography

Srebrenik is located about 147 km north of Sarajevo and 35 km north of Tuzla on the route to Brčko in the Tinja valley . The Majevica Mountains extend to the east of the city .

history

The castle in Srebrenik is one of the oldest structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1333) and played a major role in defending against Ottoman attacks in the Middle Ages.

The municipality was only affected by the Bosnian War of the 1990s from June 18 to 21, 1992.

Srebrenik is located on the main road M 1-8 ( Tuzla - Županja / Croatia ) and also has a train station on the railway line from Tuzla to Brčko .
