Čitluk (Latin Aequum ) is a place and the associated municipality in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina . Čitluk is located in the western part of the Herzegovina-Neretva canton in the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina .
geography
The municipality is geographically characterized primarily by the wooded mountains that run parallel to the deeply cut Neretva valley and by the Crnica ridge in the south. The community has a total area of approximately 181 square kilometers.
The municipality of Čitluk borders the municipality of Široki Brijeg in the north, the municipality of Mostar in the northeast, and Čapljina in the south and southeast and Ljubuški in the southwest .

history
- Around the middle of the 1st century, veterans of Legio VII Claudia and Legio XI Claudia were settled in Aequum (Čitluk).
- Arrival of the Slavs in the Roman provinces of Dalmatia and Pannonia in 626 .
- From the 7th century under the rule of local Croatian princes.
- From 925 - 1102 in the Kingdom of Croatia .
- From 1918 Čitluk belonged to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes . In 1929 its name was changed to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia .
- 1939–1941 part of the Banovina Hrvatska .
- 1941–1945 with the Independent State of Croatia .
- 1945–1992 in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina of the (Socialist) Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).
- 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement . Čitluk became part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina .
traffic
The municipality is well connected by the main roads Mostar – Ljubuški and Široki Brijeg – Čapljina. The railway line Ploče – Mostar runs along the Neretva valley on the southeast border of the municipality with a railway station in Biletići Polje.

The pilgrimage town of Međugorje is located in the municipality . The municipality of Čitluk is also known for its viticulture.
