The Vrbanja ( Serbian - Cyrillic Врбања ) is the largest right tributary of the Vrbas . It rises on the northern slope of the barren, up to 1943 m high Vlašić Mountains north of Travnik and flows into the Vrbas in Banja Luka .
The source of the Vrbanja is 1530 m above sea level. Apart from the first few kilometers, the river runs exclusively in the Republika Srpska and through narrow valleys in the midst of densely forested mountains. Only at Kotor Varoš does the valley open a little. The river flows through Kruševo Brdo , Šiprage , Obodnik , Vrbanjci , Kotor Varoš, Čelinac and Vrbanja . After 85 km the Vrbanja joins the Vrbas opposite the old town of Banja Luka. Its catchment area has an area of 704 km².
The largest right tributaries of the Vrbanja are: Bobovica , Crkvenica , Kruševica and Jošavka , and the left: Ćorkovac , Demićka , Grabovička rijeka , Cvrcka and Jakotina .
The lower Vrbanja valley serves as a corridor for the Banja Luka - Doboj railway line between Banja Luka and Čelinac , as well as for Magistral Road 4 between Banja Luka and Matuzići (Doboj) .
