The European route 231 (short: E 231 ) runs on the Dutch A1 from Amsterdam to Amersfoort . With a length of around 40 km, it is one of the shortest European roads.

The E 231 begins in Amsterdam at "Knooppunt Watergraafsmeer " on the Dutch A10 (also E 35 ). It leads along the Markermeer past Diemen and Muiden on the south bank of the Gooimeer to Bussum and on to Laren . Hilversum is passed north. The E 231 crosses the A 27 at Eemnes . It ends at Amersfoort at "Knooppunt Hoevelaken" on the Dutch A1 . The E 231 ends at "Knooppunt Hoevelaken " near Amersfoort . The European roads 30 and 232 exit here.
