The (Rijksweg) Motorway A1 starts at the Cross Watergraafsmeer in the east of Amsterdam and goes to the German border in the motorway A 30 over, which Osnabrueck runs further and finally at Bad Oeynhausen on the A 2 hits.

From the Watergraafsmeer junction to the Hoevelaken junction , the E 231 follows the A1. From the Hoevelaken junction, the E 30 follows the A1 to lead via Apeldoorn , Deventer and Hengelo to Germany .

The Dutch A1 is one of the most important traffic axes connecting the port cities of Hoek van Holland / Rotterdam with Eastern Europe as well as with Hamburg and Scandinavia (the latter via the Lotte / Osnabrück motorway junction ). There are five game bridges along the A1 : at Laren , Kootwijk , Hoog Buurlo , Rijssen and Oldenzaal .
