The Rijksweg 18 is a Dutch highway / national road of Zevenaar until after Enschede runs. The A18 / N18 used to belong to the A15 / N15 . But since there is and was no direct connection, the former A15 / N15 in the area between the Knooppunt Oud-Dijk and Enschede was renamed to A18 / N18. It is currently unlikely that the A18 / N18 will someday be connected to the A15 / N15 and renamed the A15 / N15 again.

Between the Knooppunt Oud-Dijk and Varsseveld , Rijksweg 18 is a motorway and runs as the A18, between Varsseveld and Enschede it runs as the N18.

Connection Knooppunt Oud-Dijk - Knooppunt Ressen (A15)

The original plans were to connect the A15 with the A12 and the A18. Two construction proposals were submitted in 2005, but no concrete planning was carried out at first. On June 22, 2011 it was announced that the A15 will continue in Bemmel. Melanie Schultz van Haegen , Minister for Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands, had agreements with the Province of Gelderland and the Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen , who are participating in the construction project. Accordingly, the project would be part of a toll route. The construction costs are estimated at 1 billion euros, of which the state will assume 385 million euros and the province and the city region will assume 372 million euros. Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2018 ^[obsolete] .

Another alternative would be to upgrade the existing A50, A12 and N325 roads. The province of Gelderland is currently examining the proposals. The cost of building the alternative is estimated at 750 million euros. In addition, a tunnel would have to be built under the Pannerdens Canal on the route . The Rijkswaterstaat estimates the cost of this at around 375 million euros.
