The A58 at Bavel between Eindhoven and Breda

The Rijksweg 58 (abbreviation: RW 58 ) - Short form: Autosnelweg 58 (abbreviation: A58 ) / autoroute 58 (abbreviation: N58 ) - is a Dutch motorway that of the southern part of the Netherlands East-West direction is in. It begins at Knooppunt Batadorp in the north of Eindhoven and ends in the eastern part of Vlissingen near the Oost-Souburg district , where it continues as the N288 in the direction of Vlissingen or as the N58 to the port, then interrupted by the Westerschelde and on the on the other side of the bank through Breskens towards Belgium . The A58 passes the municipalities of Eindhoven , Tilburg , Breda , Roosendaal , Bergen op Zoom , Goes , Middelburg and Vlissingen . Since July 2011, a maximum speed of 130 km / h has been in effect on the A58 between Bergen op Zoom and Vlissingen. This is done on a test basis to check whether this has a positive or negative impact on the flow of traffic, traffic safety and environmental protection. Also on the common section with the A16 near Breda is 130 km / h the maximum speed allowed.

From Bergen op Zoom, the Rijksweg runs parallel to the Westerschelde . At the exit "Heinkenszand" it has been possible since 2003 to get to the other side of the Scheldt through the Westerschelde tunnel .

N58

Until 2007 , the N58 was a normal road between Breskens and Sint Anna ter Muiden , administered by the province of Zeeland . However, after the roads in Zeeland were overhauled, this road was closed. The original plans envisaged that the N58 should go to the Belgian border via tunnel or bridge . However, these plans were discarded in the 1970s. Until 2003 there was still a car ferry between Vlissingen and Breskens , which connected the northern part of the N58 with the southern part. Since the opening of the Westerschelden tunnel ( N62 ) there is only one ferry for pedestrians and cyclists and thus the southern part of the N58 was obsolete and it was closed. Nowadays the N58 ends at the gates of the port of Vlissingen.
