Oost-Souburg ( Zeeland Oôst-Soeburg ) is a place between Middelburg and Vlissingen in the Dutch province of Zeeland . Oost-Souburg, an independent municipality from 1814 to 1834, was merged in 1834 with West-Souburg , from which it is separated by the canal through Walcheren , to form the municipality of Oost-en West-Souburg , which was incorporated into Vlissingen in 1966.
history
The former place name Sutburgh refers to the southern Wallenburg the island Walcheren in the Carolingian period. Its location in the 9th century can now be seen in the townscape as a large, central, round open space. The ring wall was rebuilt in the eighties of the 20th century. During the Reformation, the former pilgrimage church from the 15th century was badly damaged in 1572 and rebuilt in 1605 .
