The Kanaal door Walcheren ( German  channel through Walcheren ) is a thirteen kilometer long canal in the Netherlands . It crosses the Walcheren peninsula in Zeeland . The door Walcheren canal flows into the Westerschelde at the southern end in Vlissingen and into the Veerse Meer at the northern end at Veere . There is a large and a small lock at both ends. The canal is approved for ships up to 130 x 18 x 3.75 meters. It was built in 1873. Five bridges cross the canal. The opening of the bridges for shipping is controlled remotely from a control center. The largest place on the canal is Middelburg .

The canal is mainly used by recreational boating. In 2006, 24,320 pleasure boats and 2,023 commercial vessels passed the locks in Veere. 16,559 recreational boaters and 9,854 professional boaters drove through the Vlissingen locks.
