Yucca elata subsp. verdiensis (English common name : "Arizona Yucca") is a subspecies of the Soap Palm Lily ( Yucca elata ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

Yucca elata subsp. verdiensis grows without a trunk or forms a trunk up to 0.5 m in height. She forms groups with several rosettes. The variable, stiff, fibrous leaves are 25 to 40 cm long and yellow-green.

The branched, panicle inflorescence reaches a height of up to 2.8 m. The bell-shaped, white to cream-colored, pendent flowers are 4.5 cm long and about 2 cm in diameter. The flowering period extends from April to June.

Occurrence

Yucca elata subsp. verdiensis grows in a limited area in Arizona on sandy soils in open woodland at altitudes between 900 and 2000 m. There it is often associated with Toumeya papyracantha , Escobaria missouriensis subsp. navajoensis , Echinocereus fendleri , Agave parryi and other cactus species .

Intermediate forms of the Yucca elata subsp. Elata and Yucca angustissima are close.

Yucca elata subsp. verdiensis is to minus 20 ° C hardy . However, it is rarely in collections.
