Yucca angustissima (English common name : Narrow-Leaved Yucca) is a species of palm lily ( Yucca ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
Yucca angustissima grows solitary, stemless to group-forming (but sometimes with stems up to 50 cm in height). The flexible, pliable, yellow to green leaves are 25 to 45 cm long and 0.4 to 1.5 cm wide. The inflorescence that begins in the leaves protrudes over the leaves and reaches a height of 2 meters. The pendulous, bell-shaped, spherical, white, cream-colored flowers are 4.5 to 5.5 cm long and 2 to 3 cm wide. The flowering period is from May to June.
Yucca angustissima is frost hardy to minus 18 ° C in Central Europe . However, they are rare in collections.

Yucca angustissima is widespread in the Great Basin Desert in the states of Utah , Arizona and New Mexico in plains and mesas on flat, sandy hills from 1000 to 2550 m and grows in association with Navajoa peeblesiana subsp. fickeiseniorum , Toumeya papyracantha , Sclerocactus parviflorus , Pediocactus sileri , Escobaria missouriensis subsp. navajoensis , various Echinocereus spec., Opuntia spec. and Agave utahensis var. kaibabensis .
Systematics
The first description by George Engelmann under the name Yucca angustissima was published in 1902.
The species is a representative of the section Chaenocarpa series Glaucae . The following four subspecies are distinguished:

- Yucca angustissima subsp. kanabensis (McKelvey) Hochstätter
- Yucca angustissima subsp. avia (Reveal) Hochstätter
