Sclerocactus parviflorus is a species of the genus Sclerocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet parviflorus is unusual because parviflorus means small flowers as opposed to the large flowers that are produced. English trivial names are "Blessing Devil's-Claw Cactus", "Devil's-Claw Cactus" and "Eagle-Claw Cactus".

The spherical, egg-shaped to cylindrical growing Sclerocactus parviflorus reaches a height of 8 to 45 cm and a diameter of about 5 to 15 cm.
The funnel-shaped to tubular flowers have a length of 2 cm to 7 cm and a diameter of 4 cm to 8 cm. The bracts are pink to purple, rarely white or yellow. The flowering period begins at the end of May.
Sclerocactus parviflorus is a representative of the Parviflori section . Sclerocactus parviflorus is found in a vast range in the Four Corner region of Arizona , Utah , New Mexico, and Colorado . Due to the variability caused by different environmental factors, there were a large number of descriptions of different species and varieties .
distribution
Sclerocactus parviflorus grows in different soil types in the Great Basin Desert in Arizona , Utah , Colorado and in the Chihuahua Desert in New Mexico . It is located on stony slopes or in sparse coniferous trees at altitudes between 1000 and 2300 m. This species is often associated with Pediocactus sileri , Pediocactus bradyi , Pediocactus bradyi subsp. despainiix , Pediocactus simpsonii , Navajoa peeblesiana , Toumeya papyracantha , Escobaria missouriensis , Yucca nana , Yucca harrimaniae , Yucca angustissima , Yucca baileyi , various Echinocereus species and Opuntia species.
Systematics
The first description by Elzada Urseba Clover and Mary Lois Jotter under the name Sclerocactus parviflorus was published in 1941. A synonym is Echinocactus parviflorus by the American botanist Lyman David Benson 1950.
According to Fritz Hochstätter, the following subspecies are distinguished:
