Sclerocactus parviflorus subsp. macrospermus is an endangered subspecies of the Sclerocactus parviflorus plant in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The subspecies is named after the large seeds. An English common name is "Green River Cactus".
description
Sclerocactus parviflorus subsp. macrospermus grows individually spherical to elongated. It becomes 5 to 18 cm long and 5 to 15 cm in diameter. The purple, bell-shaped flowers are 3 to 4 cm long and in diameter.
The flowers appear in a wreath around the apex. The occurrence of the subspecies is limited and restricted to heights of up to 1300 m. The unusually large seeds are characteristic . In the south of the occurrence there are intermediate forms that are related to Sclerocactus wrightiae . The flowering time is in May.
distribution
Sclerocactus parviflorus subsp. macrospermus growing endemic in the Great Basin Desert in Utah near the Green River on plains or low hills at elevations from 1,200 to 1,300 meters.

The description as Sclerocactus parviflorus subsp. macrospermus was made in 2005 by Fritz Hochstätter.
A synonym is Sclerocactus parviflorus f. macrospermus Hochstätter (1998).
