The dwarf palm lily ( Yucca nana ) is a species of palm lily ( Yucca ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
This species, which grows individually or forms small colonies, is the smallest within the genus. It forms rosettes with a diameter of 15 to 25 cm. The stiff, fibrous leaves are 10 to 25 cm long.
The upright inflorescence is up to 1 meter high. The flowers appear in May. However, this species does not bloom regularly. The six cream-colored bracts of the same shape stand together like a bell.
When dry, it is frost-hardy to minus 20 ° C.
distribution
The Dwarf Yucca is in the desert Great Basin in Utah widespread. It grows on flat terrain as well as on rocky hills at altitudes of 1600 to 2400 m. In recent years, Hochstätter et al. found more remote, uniform, dense populations in central Utah. She is there u. a. associated with Sclerocactus parviflorus , Pediocactus bradyi subsp. despainii , Pediocactus simpsonii and various Echinocereus species.
