Yucca angustissima subsp. kanabensis (English common name "Kanab Yucca") is a subspecies of the plant species Yucca angustissima in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
Yucca angustissima subsp. kanabensis grows solitary or in small groups, sometimes with a short stem. The variable, green leaves are 45 to 75 cm long and 0.6 to 2 cm wide.
The inflorescence that begins above the leaves is 1.5 to 3 meters high. The thin, long, flexible leaves are typical, in contrast to the subspecies Yucca angustissima subsp. angustissima and Yucca angustissima subsp. toftiae with shorter leaves. The hanging, bell-shaped, spherical, white to cream-colored flowers are 5.5 to 6.5 cm long and 2 to 4 cm in diameter. In the east of the distribution area there are transitional forms that belong to the subspecies Yucca angustissima subsp. to be close to angustissima . The flowering period is from May to July.
Yucca angustissima subsp. kanabensis is in Central Europe to minus 20 ° C frost-hardy . It is rarely found in collections.
distribution
Yucca angustissima subsp. kanabensis is distributed in the US states of Utah and Arizona in the Great Basin Desert on sandy hills in open woodland at altitudes between 1,300 and 2,300 meters. It grows together with Sclerocactus parviflorus and various types of cacti .
