Kanab is a place and county seat of Kane County in the state of Utah .
geography
The place covers an area of 36.4 km² (14.1 mi²) of which 0.1 km² of water surface in the form of Kanab Creek , a tributary of the Colorado River . It is centrally located between Bryce Canyon National Park , the Grand Canyon (North Rim), Zion National Park and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument . In Kanab, US Highway 89A ends at US Highway 89 .
history
The first settler at what later became Kanab was Lewi Steward in 1864. Kanab was established as a village in 1870 when ten families of Mormon pioneers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints moved to the area.
On January 10, 2006, the Kanab City Council passed a controversial resolution analogous to the goals of the Quiverfull movement : The Natural Family: A Vision for the City of Kanab, codifying the definition of a "natural family" .
