The A6 between Almere and Lelystad

The Rijksweg 6 is a highway that of the northern part of The Netherlands North-South direction is in. It starts at Knooppunt Muiderberg in the east of Amsterdam and ends at Knooppunt Joure near Heerenveen , where it joins the A7 . It passes the municipalities of Almere , Lelystad , Emmeloord and Joure .

The A6 forms an important link between Amsterdam and the north of the Netherlands . This connection has been further improved by the A27 connected at Knooppunt Almere .

There are two movable bridges on the route of the A6 , which often lead to traffic jams on the A6, especially in summer . This applies to the Ketelbrug, in Flevoland, which goes over the Ketelmeer and the Frisian Scharsterrijnbrug.

The section between Knooppunt Emmeloord and Knooppunt Joure used to be part of the A50 / N50 . But when the A6 was planned, the section was renamed. It was originally planned that the A6 would run from Emmeloord via Wolvega , Oosterwolde and Roden to Groningen . This part of the planning was later discarded.
