The Rijksweg 29 (abbreviation: RW 29 ) - Short form: Autosnelweg 29 (abbreviation: A29 ) - is a Dutch motorway , the direct connection to the A15 with the A59 forms. The almost 13 km long motorway runs through the Dutch provinces of South Holland and North Brabant . It connects Rotterdam with the southwestern Netherlands. Since the Dinteloord-Halsteren section of Rijksweg 4 was completed in 2014 , the A29 has also been part of a direct connection between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp .

The A29 at Barendrecht in the direction of Rotterdam

In its short course, the A29 leads three times over the water or under the water. The Heinenoord tunnel leads the A29 under the Oude Maas . There is also the Haringvlietbrug over the Haringvliet and the Volkerakbrug over the Volkerak at the Volkeraksluizen .

Between the Knooppunt Vaanplein and the planned Knooppunt Klaaswaal , the A29 is also officially called A29. The motorway is part of the A4 between the Knooppunt Klaaswaal and the Knooppunt Sabina . It is still signposted as A29 until completion of the A4 and the associated link. The motorway, which is signposted as the A29, is 26 kilometers long, while the A29 officially has a length of 13.4 kilometers. At Klaaswaal, the distance between the lanes was already widened during construction at the end of the 1960s in order to facilitate the later construction of a Knooppunt as a connection to the A4 on the Klaaswaal- Knooppunt Benelux section .

Seen from the south, the A29 continues after Knooppunkt Vaanplein as a four-lane feeder road towards the center of Rotterdam. Since 2010 this street, the Vaanweg, is indicated as S103.

The A29 complies with the Dutch standards for motorways. Only on the Haringvlietburg and in the Heinenoord tunnel does it not have a hard shoulder . From the Vaanplein to the Oud-Beijerland exit , it has six to eight lanes, and further on it has two lanes for each direction of travel.
