The Rijksweg 5 is a highway in the Dutch province of North Holland , which is running in a north-south direction and with a length of 17 km one of the shortest highways in the Netherlands. It begins near the Knooppunt Coenplein and continues via Knooppunt Raasdorp in the west of Amsterdam through the “Rolbaan Tunnel” to the De Hoek junction, where there is a connection to the A4 . The motorway serves as a shortcut for traffic from South Holland in the direction of the north via the A9 to Haarlem and Den Helder and is intended in the future to be the motorway ring in particularRelieve A10 .

The “Rolbaan Tunnel” passes under a taxiway at Schiphol Airport . This taxiway leads to the runway called "Polderbaan". Strictly speaking, the motorway runs between the parallel runways “Polderbaan” and “Zwanenburgbaan”, that is to say, through Schiphol Airport . To the south of the “Rolbaan Tunnel”, the taxiway that has been crossed under also runs alongside the motorway. On the walls of the tunnel there are mosaics with motifs from aviation.

Since 2009 the A5 has been extended further north under the name "Westrandweg". A new tunnel was dug under the North Sea Canal for this purpose. There is already a tunnel on the A10 in the immediate vicinity, but this is heavily congested during rush hour. The new tunnel opened in May 2013.
