Kapelle ( listen ? / I ) is both a municipality and a village of the same name in the Dutch province of Zeeland and, according to the CBS, had 12,784 inhabitants on January 31, 2019 . Audio file / audio sample

There is a military cemetery here from the Second World War , where around 220 French soldiers, 20 Moroccan soldiers from the French army and one Belgian soldier are buried.

The children's book author Annie MG Schmidt and the politician Jan Peter Balkenende were born in this place. The cyclist Jo de Roo comes from the district of Schore.

Site and traffic

The village is connected to the Zeeuwse Lijn , which runs from Roosendaal to Vlissingen, via the Kapelle-Biezelinge train station .

The Hervormde Kerk von Kapelle is located in the center of the »Ring-Dorf«, it was built in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries.

In the 14th century the construction of today's church with the choir and the tower began. In 1475 the sacristy and the northern choir were added and in 1500 the baptistery on the side of the tower. The main nave of the church dates from the same period. The tower is the most famous part of the church and is called “de stoere Zeeuw”, the hard sea country. It is a 60-meter-high tower that is mostly made of brick , but the entrance is made of natural stone.

The interior of this Dutch Reformed church is very sober, but bright.
