history

In the years 1530 to 1570, the place and its surroundings were considerably affected by repeated storm surges . Most of the surrounding villages around the town of Reimerswaal often went under during the St. Felix flood in 1530 and the All Saints flood in 1532 . Reimerswaal was now directly on the sea. In 1632 the "old" Reimerswaal had to be given up for good. The Verdronken Land van Reimerswaal can now be found as a submerged area in the Oosterschelde .

Reimerswaal did not start to re-establish until more than 300 years later, in 1961, south of the former town. Today's Reimerswaal municipality was created in the 1970s by merging the villages of Yerseke , Vlake , Hansweert , Kruiningen , Waarde , Oostdijk , Krabbendijke , Stationsbuurt , Rilland and Bath . The main town and administrative seat of Reimerswaal is Kruiningen.
