Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen

The Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen (short SAN ; German  city ​​region Arnhem-Nijmegen ), previously Knooppunt Arnhem-Nijmegen ( KAN ), was a plus region ( agglomeration ) in the east of the Netherlands . It was founded in 2006 as an amalgamation of the cities of Arnhem ( German:  Arnheim ) and Nijmegen and the surrounding communities. It was dissolved again on January 1, 2015. The economic perspective of the SAN was to develop into an (inter) national / European multimodal transport region. Part of this vision was the Stadsregiorail program , which enables connections in local public transport and the like. a. should improve by building new train stations. The regional structure plan stipulated the future spatial development of the 20 municipalities.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, the business development agencies and the administrative heads of the cities of Arnhem, Nijmegen, Kleve and Emmerich have been working more closely together in the ANKE city network .

Statistically, the Stadsregio is given the designation “NL226 Arnhem / Nijmegen” according to NUTS .
