Duiven ( listen ? / I ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland in the Liemers region between Arnhem and Zevenaar, six km to the north-west . On January 31, 2019, Duiven had a population of 25,321 and a total area of ​​35.15 km². The municipality includes the villages of Duiven, Groessen (pronounced: Chrussen) and Loo. The community has a direct connection to the A12 Arnhem - Oberhausen motorway . The Centerpoort business park is located directly on the motorway.

The new railway line (" Betuweroute ") for freight traffic, which connects Rotterdam with the Ruhr area , runs partly through the municipality. Passenger traffic takes place on the Winterswijk – Zevenaar (–Arnhem) railway . Trains on the Oberhausen – Arnhem line do not stop at Duiven station .

In the district of Loo there was a Roman border fort .

The history of the municipality until 1816 is very similar to that of the neighboring municipality of Zevenaar . But Duiven was often hit by floods. In the 18th century Duiven had an important brick factory and an important brewery .

From 1986 to 1994 Duiven was a state-designated growth community ("Groeigemeente"). During this time new residential areas were built and the number of residents grew rapidly.

Huub Hieltjes ( VVD ) has been the acting mayor of the municipality since February 21, 2020 . His colleagues include Ineke Knuiman (Lokaal Alternatief), Ton Spaargaren ( VVD ), Johannes Goossen ( CDA ), Gemma Tiedink-Koning (Lokaal Alternatief) and the community secretary Chris Papjes.
