Hattem is located on Rijksweg 50 , Arnhem - Zwolle , only four kilometers south of Zwolle and on the IJssel (marina). Hattem has some industries, u. a. Materials for building construction and civil engineering . But tourism is more important.
history
The first documented testified in the 9th century for a hat home site received the 1299 city law . Because of its location on the IJssel opposite Zwolle in Overijssel , it was strategically important for the Duchy of Geldern in the Middle Ages . For some time it was a member of the Hanseatic League . In 1629 it was besieged by Spanish troops in vain during the Eighty Years' War . Hattem was also occupied by troops from the Prince-Bishop of Munster from 1672 to 1673 . After 1700 trade and with it the economic importance of the city declined sharply. In the 20th century, working commuters settled in Zwolle , including many wealthy people who live in the wooded residential area south of the old town.

Toon van Asseldonk ( D66 ) has been the provisional mayor of the municipality since September 24, 2019 . His colleagues include the alderman Martijn Hospers (CDA), Auke Schipper ( ChristenUnie ), Carla Broekhuis-Bonte ( PvdA ) and the community secretary Daniël van der Weerd.
Attractions
Hattem has a well-preserved, picturesque town center, with many old houses from the 16th to 18th centuries. The 15th century Deichtor is the town's landmark. The town hall (1619–1625) and the Gothic St. Andrew's Church (Grote of Andreaskerk) are also worth seeing.
Hattem has a few small museums:
- the bakery museum (where children can bake bread themselves)
- the Anton Pieck Museum about the artist Anton Franciscus Pieck from Haarlem (1895–1987), whose romantic drawings from the “ good old days ” also adorn many calendars and books (especially fairy tales).
