Location and economy
The municipality forms the northernmost tip of the province of Gelderland, and borders on Kampen in Overijssel , as well as on Flevoland . The A50 ( Arnheim - Emmeloord ) and A28 ( Amersfoort - Zwolle ) motorways run through the municipality and cross at Hattemerbroek. Wezep has a train station where the local trains Amersfoort - Zwolle stop every half hour. The north and west of the municipality is a polder and meadow landscape that is barely above sea level . Towards the south-east, the ground becomes more sandy and more wooded or covered with heather : this is the north-west of the Veluwe (local altitude up to 45 m above sea level).
The main source of income is agriculture, especially livestock. The military is also an important employer: Wezep is the location of an artillery regiment with a shooting range on the Oldebroeker Heide, south of Wezep. There is also some tourism (at 't Loo and Wezep), and especially in Hattemerbroek, on the motorway, a lot of small businesses.
history
Oldebroek, also mentioned as Hollanderbroek in the Middle Ages , was created when, after a storm surge in 1170, the Count of Geldern invited people from Holland to reclaim the land and to settle here. For the most part, Wezep did not emerge until the 20th century as a barracks settlement and commuter village (Zwolle is only 7 km away). In religious terms, many residents of the community (except Wezep) are very Orthodox Calvinist . The old costumes, which can still be seen in the museum farm in Oldebroek, are seldom worn. The small Christian parties SGP and ChristenUnie still have a lot of influence in the community.
