Location and economy

Rozendaal is on the south side of the Veluwe . To the west, the town is bounded by the A12 Arnhem - Utrecht motorway , which separates Rozendaal from the northern outskirts of the Gelders capital. In the south Rozendaal passes almost unnoticed into the neighboring town of Velp (municipality of Rheden ). Rozendaal's most important industry is tourism. Most of the town's residents are commuters who have a job in nearby Arnhem. There are comparatively many villas in Rozendaal; the municipality is one of the richest in the Netherlands in terms of gross income of the inhabitants.

history

Rozendaal arose from the glory of Rosendael, whose lord lived in the castle of that name. It originated in the 14th century; the current building dates from 1721. The last important noble family that lived on Rosendael (and mostly also provided the mayor of the community) was the Baron van Pallandt family . When the village and Rosendael Castle were badly damaged during Operation Market Garden in 1944 , the baron had a new district built (at his own expense and on land he had sold to the community against tradition). The baron also donated a new sewer system. In 1977, Baron Van Pallandt bequeathed the castle and the surrounding country estate to the foundations Vrienden der Geldersche Kasteelen and Het Geldersch Landschap .

Attractions

  • Rosendael Castle with the surrounding park, forest and garden. The castle is furnished in the style of the 18th and 19th centuries and can be visited from around Easter to the end of October (only with a guide). Closed on Monday. In the castle garden (freely accessible) are the well-known bedriegertjes (small fraudsters). These are small, artificial fountains that spray some water without warning and so wet the visitors. Children in particular like to chat here on warm days.
  • De Imbosch nature reserve , a forest and heathland north of the village.
  • The village church (late baroque style) built in 1758 opposite the castle.
