Location and economy

Lochem is located 15 km east of Zutphen on the Berkel River . The place has a small train station on the local railway Zutphen - Hengelo . A 10 km long road leads via Laren to the Amsterdam - Berlin motorway . Lochem has some industry, but agriculture and tourism are more important. The ForFarmers Group has its headquarters in Lochem.

Gorssel is located between Deventer and Zutphen, in a beautiful, wooded area. Many newcomers from these cities live there. Many farmers also live and work in and around Gorssel and Almen.

In the middle of the village of Eefde, between Zutphen and Gorssel, is the "Landgoed 't Haveke". Landgoed het Haveke was first mentioned in 1481, when "Herman ter Havick" gave his wife the house as a present on the occasion of their wedding.

A 14 hectare English landscape park (landscape architect Leonhard A. Springer , 1855-1940) with forest and manicured lawns surrounds the large manor house . Miles of walking paths lead through the park and are freely accessible to the public during the day.

Events, weddings, summer festivals and exhibitions take place on the spacious areas of the manor house. The Landgoed comes from the family of the Counts von Rechteren-Limpurg-Speckfeld and is now inhabited and managed by the German von Wedel family. Nepeta von Wedel is a granddaughter of Adolphina Adriana Gravin van Rechteren-Limpurg and mother of the current owners.

Close to Eefde is a 17th century castle (Huis de Voorst), which serves as a conference center, and a large barracks.

history

Lochem emerged in the 10th century around a court belonging to the Counts of Gelre or Geldern . It received city rights in 1233 .

Lochem was often the target of attacks and sieges, including 1506 (Karl von Egmont); 1543 (Gelderscher War, devastation by imperial troops); in the Eighty Years War 1582 and 1590 (failed), 1606 (stormed by the Spaniards and recaptured for the Netherlands by Ernst Kasimir von Nassau-Dietz); and finally it was occupied by the Munster from 1672 to 1673 . In between there was a devastating city fire in 1615. From 1680, quieter times began and Lochem became a market town for the surrounding farmers.

On January 1, 2005 the municipality of Gorssel (13,500 inhabitants) was dissolved and part of the municipality of Lochem (previously 19,000 inhabitants).

Attractions

Lochem Town Hall was built in 1634. Before the Reformation, the church in the city center was dedicated to the patron saint of Brussels , St. Gudula .

Since June 2015, Gorssel has had a museum for the art of modern realism (Museum MORE) in the old parish hall with works by u. a. Carel Willink , Pyke Koch , Dick Ket and others v. a.

There are some castles in the community: The Verwolde house, near Laren, can be visited. Not far from there is a very thick and old tree. This is said to be one of the oldest trees in the Netherlands.

The municipality is rich in natural areas, including the Barchemer Berg, a small wooded hill, and the forests of the village of Joppe (near Gorssel). The parks and forests near the castles and the east bank of the IJssel near Gorssel are also worth a hike. The poet ACW Staring (1767–1840) often sung about the area of this community in his works (as did the neighboring community of Vorden ). You can follow in his footsteps on a cycling tour (information from the tourist office).

Gorssel and especially Almen have old village churches that are worth seeing.
