Wageningen is located on the Lower Rhine , south of Ede . The municipality borders on the province of Utrecht . The town lies on the edge of the Veluwe , near the motorway Utrecht - Arnhem . Significant is the specialized particular life and environmental sciences research at Wageningen University (Wageningen University & Research Center), are among the several research labs and farms.
An international commercial weather service , MeteoGroup, operates from Wageningen.

history
Wageningen emerged as a border town of the Duchy of funds in the 11th century , and received in 1263 the city rights from Count Otto II. The fortress lost after a conquest in 1672 by the French increasingly important. In the 18th and 19th centuries , the inhabitants lived partly from tobacco production (the sandy soils of the area are suitable for growing the tobacco plant), in the 19th century from stone factories. The flowering began when the Dutch Reich Agricultural School (from 1918 university) was established here in 1876. This also brought the printing works to Wageningen.
In May 1940 Wageningen suffered heavy war devastation in the battle for the "Grebbeberg" between Wageningen and Rhenen .
On May 2, 1945, the Achterveld armistice was signed in Wageningen. He arranged the food supply for the starving population of West Holland as part of Operations Manna and Chowhound and Operation Faust .
On May 5, 1945, signed Canadian General Charles Foulkes for the Allies and the German side General John Blaskowitz the surrender documents, bombed in part, temporarily defunct and 2004 re-opened Hotel "De Wereld" ( The World ), whereby the Second World War - and thus the German occupation - in the entire Netherlands was officially over. This act is held annually on May 5, the Bevrijdingsdag ( Liberation thought) with a parade of war veterans, until his death in 2004 was Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands , who had also signed on 5 May 1945, always the senior person. Blaskowitz committed suicide during the Nuremberg Trial .
