Julian Calor (2016)

Julian Calor (* 29. June 1993 in Wageningen ) is a Dutch electro-house - and Big Room - Producer and DJ , who is well known for its distinctive productions in this scene. Calor is currently under contract with Revealed Recordings. He had his first successes in 2014 with his EP Typhoon / Storm .

Career

Until 2013: musical beginnings & first successes

Calor was born in 1993 in Wageningen in the Netherlands, where he also grew up. He dealt with electronic music at an early age and began to publish his own productions on the Internet, including in particular on the YouTube and SoundCloud platforms . Right at the beginning of his career, his tracks were heavily influenced by electro and progressive house. In 2012, well-known DJs and producers first became aware of Calor and he received his first remix orders, including from Nicky Romero for his song Toulouse and reload of the two Swedes Sebastian Ingrosso and Tommy Trash . The remixes were the first small successes and the first collaborations followed.

Calor released his debut single on August 19, 2013 with the song Ambush , which was created in collaboration with the Dutch DJ duo Tom & Jame, who are in close contact with the Dutch producer Hardwell , who then also became aware of him . Ambush has not yet appeared on Hardwell's " Revealed Recordings ", but on the record label "Deal Records". In addition, "Wooha" was followed by the release of the track Triumph , which he recorded together with Oliver Heldens , which made his breakthrough a short time later. Triumph was able to surpass the success of its predecessor Ambush and received support from, among others, Dada Life , Vinai or Hardwell, who recorded it on his record label that same year.

2013–2014: Increasing presence as DJ & Revealed Recordings

On October 18, 2013, he performed for the first time at a major festival at Amsterdam Airport. This was entitled Hardwell presents Revealed and is based on his series of compilations with the same title. Besides Calor and Hardwell, Dannic , Dyro and W&W also played there . The gig was a success and in the same week he released his single Space Dial , with which he moved into the Beatport genre charts for the first time and was placed in the top quarter. Two months later his track Griffin appeared , which, in contrast to its predecessors, is a bit more shallow to describe, but could also follow on from the success. He received support from Nicky Romero, among others, in his “Protocol Radio” podcast. The song was published on Armin van Buuren's record label " Armada Music ".

On February 17, 2014, the double single Typhoon / Storm was released on "Revealed Recordings", which helped him to break through in the EDM scene. With Typhoon in particular , he enjoyed great success. On the one hand, the style of the song was considered unmistakable, on the other hand it was able to advance with the track to number 9 on the Beatport charts, as well as to number 3 on the progressive house charts. The EP was considered the announcement of his debut album, which was to follow a year later. A month later he followed up with a remix for Sevyn Streeter and Chris Brown's I Won't Stop . This was also used in numerous podcasts and enjoyed great popularity. He produced another remix for Unless We Forget by Jewelz & Sparks .

On July 26, 2014, Julian Calor performed for the first time at the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium. In addition to his own songs, he also strongly represented the releases of "Revealed". Appearances at Ministry of Sound and the Creamfields Festival followed. He was also a guest on the 215th episode of the “ Hardwell On Air ” podcast, where he presented a selection of the tracks from his album.

2015: Debut album Evolve

In February 2015, the first pre-release of his studio album Evolve was released under the same title. It moved up to the top 20 on the Beatport charts and to second place on the genre charts. It was also described as unmistakable and corresponds to the Synthes that he also used in his last tracks. On YouTube, the track received hundreds of thousands of clicks, even though no music video was released. A month later he released the second and final pre-release single. It was called Cell . Calor received more and more praise and was named Newcomer of the Year in the field of electro and progressive house.

On May 1, 2015, his debut album Evolve was finally released , which was a success. It reached number five in the Dutch dance / house charts as well as number eight in the Beatport overall and first place in the Beatport genre charts. The songs that were individually uploaded to "Revealed" all received several hundred thousand clicks and the style in general received very positive reviews. In particular, the tracks Another Template and Signs received support and spread quickly on the Internet. At the time of publication he was the only "Revealed" member apart from Hardwell himself who had released a solo album. Furthermore, numerous remakes were produced for his songs. On July 25, 2015, he was seen a second time at Tomorrowland.

Since 2016: INVLV project

In 2016 he continued his personal style and released a number of solo singles as well as a collaboration with producer Manse on "Revealed". At the same time he started the INVLV project. On this he works with the Dutch designer Sander Overmeer. So he designs works visually and Calor produces music based on these designs. He was inspired by the way Hans Zimmer and Trent Reznor write music for visual impressions. Fans then had the opportunity to choose between two drafts and thus decide which song would be finished and which not. The project is currently not yet completed (as of June 12, 2017). Musically, the project represents a major further development, as Calor experiments primarily with the genres of future bass and trap , thus distancing himself from the Progressive House and Electro House style that he has established in Evolve .
