Oliver Helden (* 1. February 1995 in Rotterdam as Olivier Helden ), also known as HI-LO is a Dutch DJ and producer of Deep House , Tech House and Future House . In 2014 he gained international fame with the single Gecko .

Career

Heldens 'music career began in 2013 when he was signed by Spinnin' Records , one of the largest and most successful electronic music labels . Initially, he mainly published electro and progressive house tracks, which were also supported by well-known DJs such as Hardwell , Nicky Romero and Tiësto . He sent his track Gecko to some friends who convinced him to spread the word. So Heldens Tiësto sent the single, who wanted to release it on his label Musical Freedom and meet with the producer.

On December 30, 2013, Heldens released the track Gecko , with which he reached the charts in France , Belgium and the Netherlands . About a month later, Gecko received the “Essential New Tune” award from British DJ and radio host Pete Tong .

In January 2014 Heldens introduced "Heldeep Mixtape" on its official SoundCloud page. This is a mix series that appears at irregular intervals with music that the DJ would play live. In June 2014, Heldens presented another mix series called "Heldeep Radio". The weekly podcast contains music from various directions of electronic dance music , such as deep , tech and future house .

With a version called Gecko (Overdrive) expanded to include vocals by Becky Hill and released at the end of June 2014, it reached number 1 in the British Top 40 in July 2014 and was also able to enter the German-language charts in August 2014.

On July 16, 2014, Heldens released his single Koala . It also reached the charts in Belgium and the Netherlands. On December 7th, 2014, a second version was released called Last All Night (Koala) , expanded to include vocals by KStewart . It reached number 5 on the UK singles chart.

There were further publications in 2014 with Sander van Doorn (THIS) and Mr. Belt & Wezol (Pikachu) . Also worth mentioning are his remixes of A Sky Full of Stars ( Coldplay ) and Can't Stop Playing (Gregor Salto & Dr. Kucho!).

In 2014, Heldens was ranked 34th in the DJ Mag Top 100 for the first time . In 2019 he achieved his best ranking to date with 7th place.

In July 2015, Heldens announced that he was behind the pseudonym HI-LO and that he had founded his own label called Heldeep Records . Heldens has been publishing new songs on his label regularly since 2015 and is considered one of the most popular future house DJs.
